I hate driving, and in order to make myself less stiff and comfortable when I drive, I engage in karaoke. It makes me feel at ease, so if you're wondering why I hate silent drives, it's because they make me anxious.
Today, I was returning to my dorm after going home for the weekend, and this song rocked my world. It typically makes me cry, but as it turns out, it's lots of fun to sing, it's a good ballad.
Did I mention it's from one of the illest anime soundtracks of all time?
The weather's gotten ridiculously hot, and I'm not sure how I'm gonna survive. The AC isn't on in my dorm yet (yes, in the expected 90 degree temperature tomorrow, my dormitory is expecting someone will want to turn their heating unit on).
That being said, the transition that my musical pallette has taken on in the past few weeks has been consistent to what it's always been doing; going along with the weather.
Some albums and singles get absolutely no play in the inappropriate seasons. This song I'm sharing with you today I haven't played in full since... last summer. Because the weather is so unseasonably warm, I've been playing this song multiple times throughout the week.
I'm presuming that it's going to be incredibly humid tomorrow, being that I'm sweating as I type this in my dorm, so I hope that we all reach for a cold Half & Half (or in my preference, a cold Green Tea) and play this as we recline outdoors.
If you wanna sing along, here're the lyrics.
I want to hear your voice and I won't say that it's bad when you're far I want to hear your voice and I won't say that I cry when you're gone I wonder why you are so cold why you are so cold when I know you're on fire I want to hear your voice and I won't say
That maybe we'll never end up
Where you've been now does it render you so different 'Cause baby I don't know what I'll do if you don't want to be here no more Do you stay, I don't know but I just want to I want to hear your voice again So are you coming, are you coming Come back to me I want to be where you lay down your robe
And I won't run out in your way when you head back home And I'm gonna heed my mind just nod my head I'm 'a leave you to what you know
I've been on a Brazilian music kick lately. Partly because I can't find any Spanish-language music that speaks to me (can anybody help me with that? My spanish-language music collection is soooo bare), and partly because it's getting warmer here.
That being said, I've been playing a lotta Seu Jorge and Jorge Ben Jor, two of my favorite Brazilian musicians, both with distinct accents that I'm trying to wrap my Portuguese as a third language mind around.
Secondly, I literally have no computer now. Apparently, rough handling your laptop doesn't get you that many miles on it.
That being said, here we go.
This song I like to put under the category of, "Songs A Boy Made Better". Essentially, they are songs that you liked in the first place, but adding in someone that you care(d) about makes the song a little more fun. This is one of those songs (along with Eddie Kendricks' "Intimate Friends", among others).
I was with friends in a Toys 'R Us when this song came on. If anyone knows me it's that I get completely absorbed in the radio when a song I like is playing, and I will pay no one any mind so I can enjoy the song. As I began to hum and whistle the song, he joined along.
And thus, it makes the song better.
If you got any songs that a significant other made better, share in the comments. Let's make this a party.
The other day my iPod was crusin' on shuffle, and this song popped up.
I've played it at least thirty times since yesterday, many of those times were consecutive. Theophilus has a tendency to make songs that put one in a trance... a dancing, grooving trance.
In my head, I've been compiling a list of songs to play when I get my first apartment (the first few apartments are for parties, anything after that is for gatherings). I've posted a few of them on the blog, and this is another for the list.
This song it took me a long time to warm up to, I didn't understand the groove it was going for.
I love crunk music. It makes me laugh, makes me excited, gives me that false sense of gangsta.
That being said, today I was listening to this song and thought, "It was a perfect idea to bring Ice Cube on this track."
Ice Cube is one of the forefathers of gangsta rap, being one of greatest writers the genre has ever seen. I find him amazing for the things he gets away with saying in this song, like
"Diana Ross!"
"Get yo' testifying ass in the trunk!"
"Helter Skelter!"... among other things.
Just listen and enjoy (the unedited version is o'er here).
